Complete HF Station For Sale (less antenna)

Complete HF Station For Sale (less antenna)
February 12, 2015 Ralph Borcherds

This gear is from the estate of a silent key here in the valley. I was asked if I would sell the gear. So here goes. All of the proceeds from the 2 radios go back to the widow.

Kenwood TS-440S/AT. With auto-tuner. The radio has good output. 100 watts with good ALC actions so it should have good audio. Overall in nice shape. I think the memory battery has gone. When you power it up, the display flashes. If you power it up and push the “A=B” as per the included manual, the radio works just fine. The battery is easily replaceable. The auto-tuner sounds like it is working. I could hear it trying to match into the long wire I was using as an antenna.

Also includes:

Shure Brothers 444 microphone

Pyramid variable power supply. Volt and amp meters. Rated at 35 Amps.

MFJ Versa Tuner II antenna tuner

New unwrapped MFJ power/SWR meter

New unwrapped MFJ dummy load

Original manual

All of this for $400.00. Some of these radios alone sell for this on line. A great deal.

Also for sale: Swan 500C

This is a tube type radio from about 1968-70. It comes with the Swan power supply / speaker. It all works, no hum on receive (I have not put it on the air to get a sig report). It covers 80M-10M but not the WARC bands (did not have them in 1970). The paint is in fair shape, some paint missing on the front panel. He has added a switch for an internal crystal calibrator (nice to have on an analog dial) and a second on/off switch on the power supply. The radio does work. On a short wire antenna I picked up QSOs on several bands. On 40M-80M the output was 200-250 watts, about 175 watts on 20M, much less on 15M and 10M so the finals may be getting weak. The final tubes (2x 6HF5) and the driver tube are easily available on line.

There is also a Yahoo group for the Swan line of radios. There is a great net that meets on 80M each Tuesday. In order the check into the net, you rig must have been manufactured before 1980. So this radio would fit right in. By The Way.. Swan was made in Oceanside California. There is no manual for this radio, but that is available free on line or printed and bound on eBay. Also there is no microphone.

Because of the weak finals and the so-so paint. I have priced the radio at $200.00

Again, the proceeds go back to the widow.

If you have any questions or want to buy either of these radios, give me a call. My home phone is in this newsletter as well as the clubs web site. Glenn WB6RLC
