President’s Message October 2017
October 15, 2017 Ralph Borcherds

First off, welcome back to all of our Snow Bird members. We always look forward to your attendance and participation in the club.

The September meeting came off pretty well. OK, the hot dogs showed up a little late, but I think everyone got some. But I think we need to buy a few more next year. Sorry to those that did not get their fill.

Your truly gave a short slide show of the recent eclipse as viewed from Madras Oregon. It was an amazing event and I am glad to be have been able to share it with you.

Tom KJ6DZT presented a good talk on BALUNs and their usage and passed around quite a few examples. Who knew that they came in such a variety of sizes and flavors?

The raffle had a big surprise in September. Tommy AE6WL, brought in a new Alenico dual band HT to give away. Guy KF6S won it on the second call. The first number pulled did not want it or had left the building. See, sticking around for the business meeting pays off.

We will be having a Tech Class in January. Club elections are in November. See more info further down the newsletter.

So enjoy the winter band openings. I’ve been using the new FT-8 digital mode. It is much like JT-65 but much quicker. FT-8 has become very popular in just a few months. It seems that all of The Valleys repeaters are all up and running. Enjoy them. Several have EchoLink and or IRLP. Use them, that’s what they are there for. If you have questions about the repeater usage or any club activities or suggestions, please go to the club web site and drop us an email. Someone will answer you, or I will personally browbeat them until they do.

See you on the bands. 73
