DESERT STORM ROAD RALLY
I just received an email from the organizers of the Desert Storm Rally. They need help from ham radio for communications along the rally course. The course runs 5 miles or so out through the desert and the cars run at a high rate of speed. So sometimes, things happen. Cars bread down or have an accident. So, they use Ham radio operators to help track the cars along the course. It is a very important safety concern and the event could not be held without communicators.
Here is a big plus. They have a ham club challenge. The ham club that brings the most members to the rally receives $300 !
Last year Bill KK6HRW and I worked the event. They fed us dinner Friday, lunch and dinner on Saturday (breakfast is on the hotel). We had a lot of fun and all it takes is a high clearance vehicle, no need for 4WD, and a mobile 2M radio with a mag mount antenna. Bill and I had a great time and met lots of very nice drivers and crew members.
The event is April 1st and 2nd 2016, in Blythe. It’s only an hour or so away and we get a reduced room rate at the host hotel. Communicators meet on Friday evening to set up teams and get our positions. We get escorted along the course Saturday morning, are supplied a box lunch and it all ends that evening with the awards. You can drive home then or spend one more night in beautiful downtown Blythe.
For more information contact me via email or phone or after a net. My info is on the clubs web site.
Thanks,
