March Program – BIG Antennas

Steve Moreen, KA6UGS will be our guest presenter. Steve is Western Region Sales Manager for Dielectric, based in Raymond and Lewiston, ME. Dielectric is the premier US manufacturer of high powered radio and television broadcast antennas.
Steve’s presentation will include:
- Discussion of the newly FCC approved over-the-air broadcast standard called ATSC 3.0. (And yes…you will need a new TV.)
- A picture tour of Dielectric’s TV and FM transmit antenna manufacturing plant in Raymond and Lewiston, ME.
- A picture tour of installed high powered television broadcast antennas capable of radiating 1 MW [Mega Watt] of RF signal and a discussion how these antennas are similar and different from the antennas used for amateur communications.
Steve holds a General Class Amateur Radio License and a General Class Commercial Radiotelephone License. He has been a Ham since 1967.
Steve’s first job in commercial broadcasting was as a high school student in 1969. Since that time he has worked as both technician and chief engineer at various radio and televisions, as well as president and general manager of a commercial satellite communications teleport.
Steve, and his spouse Peter, recently moved to Cathedral City and joined the Desert RATS. His current projects are completion of a multi-band offset fed HF antenna and installation of a Moseley MP33-N WARC beam antenna on his 37′ tower.
