Coachella Valley ARES group Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES)

Welcome to the Coachella Valley ARES page. On this page we will be posting anything that involves ARES within the COACHELLA VALLEY.

ARES NET

Coachella Valley ARES NET meets the 1st and 3rd Monday Nights of each month on 146.760 (-) PL 107.2 at 7:30 PM. This net will be run by a different ARES member. Visitors will always be welcome.

If you wish to be a NET CONTROL OPERATOR please check out this example PREAMBLE for your use by clicking on this sentence. Please keep track of check-ins on your own.

Master list of Check-ins is updated once a month and will be e-mailed out to everyone that runs the NET.  All check-ins need to be reported to the NET Manager so that the master list can be updated.

JOINING ARES

To sign up for ARES you need to do the following:

  1. Fill out the info on the ARRL ARES registration site for the Orange Section
  2. E-mail the ARES EC Dave KO6B (c_lion@twc.com) to inform him that you have registered. This will start the process of activating your account on the system
  3. Take the training that is/will be required from you
    FEMA Traingin can be found at https://training.fema.gov/is/crslist.aspx. You will need to take the 100, 200 and 700 level courses at a minimum. For hospital support you will need to do the IS-200.HCa course.
  4. Attend the meetings for further training and info.

Hospital Emergency Radio Operators (HEROs)

HEROs need to program the following frequencies into their radios.

Repeaters:

  • Desert RATS Repeater: 146.940 – PL 107.2
  • Secondary Repeater: 146.760 – PL 107.2

Simplex Frequencies:

  • 144.315
  • 144.345
  • 144.360
  • 440.000
  • 445.000

ARES Hospital Support for Eisenhower Medical Center.

We are looking for more volunteers to help with this support program. If you have any questions you can call or email the Coachella Valley ARES Assistant Emergency Coordinator – Glenn Morrison (Contact info on Contact Page).

To be able to help support Eisenhower Medical Center (EMC) you need to fill out the local ARES form and complete the following FEMA training.

IS-100.HCB: Introduction to the Incident Command System (ICS 100) for Healthcare/Hospitals .

IS-200.HCA: Applying ICS to Healthcare Organizations.

IS-700.A: National Incident Management System (NIMS) An Introduction.

There are other training courses that you can do, but are not required for the hospital support team. Take a look at the entire course listing here.

We will be announcing specific training at the monthly meetings and to the members that are on the hospital support e-mail list.
