Presidents Message

It feels like Fall is here. Break out your flannel shirts and your bunny slippers.

Our September meeting was well attended to hear the talk on Yaesu system Fusion related radios and repeaters. We just may have to look into that in the future.

Check out this month’s meeting on the 19th. It’s Geochron that makes that cool satellite mapping software with the shadow across the earth during darkness and it moves in real time. More on that further down.

November will have a special RATS event. November 13. Not only will it be our first recent in person get together in quite a while, but it will also be a swap meet. Bring your junk and take home some cool stuff. We need some volunteers to help pull this off. Just the usual parking, selling, registration and of course clean up. Check out the details on the website. Steve KA6UGS will tell you more about it.

Right now, all of the parks are closed down, and the future of Lake Cahuilla Park looks kind of iffy. The County may lose their lease on the property. So I am not sure about Winter Field Day. We just might have to go it individually, as we did with Summer Field Day.

Oh well. It’s all fun. The coming sunspot cycle looks promising. I’ve already worked 3 all time new DX entities for me. This last weekend I was out camping at Lone Pine, up near Bishop on Hwy 395. Using FT8 mostly, running only 50 watts into a 13ft ground mounted vertical, I worked 17 states, 9 countries and 4 continents. So, find a way – any way to get on the air and have some fun with Cycle 25.

Catch you on the bands
