It’s that time of the year again, one of the funnest events that we have, ARRL’s annual Field Day. What is Field Day you ask? Per the ARRL website:
To work as many stations as possible on any and all amateur bands (excluding the 60, 30, 17, and 12-meter bands) and to learn to operate in abnormal situations in less than optimal conditions. Field Day is open to all amateurs in the areas covered by the ARRL/RAC Field Organizations and countries within IARU Region 2. DX stations residing in other regions may be contacted for credit, but are not eligible to submit entries.
Ok, so what does it mean to us? It means that on June 27th and 28th, the Desert RATS and anyone else who is interested should show up at the Palm Springs City Hall, go around to the rear entrance (where all the antennas are) and join in on the fun. For those who wish to help set up, the work party will start at 0630 on the morning of the 27th. The actual event will start at 1100 local time on the 27th and will end at 1100 local time on the 28th. Yes, it goes for a full 24 hours. This means that you can come at any time (we always need help in the early morning hours) and stay as long as you want (or can). Food and snacks will be available, along with water and coffee. If you want sodas, bring your own. So come on down, bring your friends and neighbors. Everyone who wants will have the opportunity to get on the air.
In addition, the Palm Springs CERT will be doing a joint exercise with advanced CERT team members from Los Angeles and the Red Cross in conjunction with Field Day. So there will be something for everyone. Mark your calendars and we’ll see you there!
