At the last meeting we talked a bit about Hamfest and it’s future. We said then that it would be a club decision and we would hold a general meeting on it. So here it is in a nut shell.
The first thing that we need to make the event continue is a new venue. The Pavilion is just too expensive. We need a new place to hold Hamfest. It needs to have an indoor room that can hold all of the vendors, an outdoor space for the swap meet people and the RVers. There also needs to be plenty of parking for those attending.
Now comes the hard part. We need some full time committees to take hold of this thing and make it work. This event is a club event and as such, the club has to make it happen. Without full club participation Hamfest will not continue. Plain and simple. It is up to the membership of the club. Period.
We can do this with or without HRO, they may or may not return. We have plenty of vendors that are looking forward to coming back, and we have more lined up. We are looking at making it the first weekend in February. That is the weekend after Quartzfest and 2 weeks before Yuma. Just like it was before. We can get this back to The Biggest Little Hamfest in the West. A fun regional little event that everyone likes to come to, but it’s going to take work on your part.
