PALM DESERT HIGH SCHOOL ROBOTICS CLUB – NEEDS YOUR HELP
The PDHS robotics club is looking for some mentors to help give the kids some direction. You don’t need to be a mechanical engineer to help, just some good mechanical background and willingness to think outside the box. They don’t have shop classes in high school like when we were kids. There is no metal shop, no electronics shop, no machine shop. So their resources are somewhat limited.
I got involved in a round about way. I got an email from one of the clubs sponsors. They received a new controller for their robot, but it had Anderson Power Poles on it. Where could she get some? “Not in this valley” I told her. As it turns out, the RATS had just received a shipment of power poles for fodder for the monthly raffle. She asked if I would deliver them to the Saturday club meeting and demonstrate how to use them. So the Desert RATS donated 15 pairs of Anderson Power Poles to the PDHS Robotics Club. As a result, we have our logo on the robot.
These are not quit the “Killer Robots” you see on TV. They do have to perform certain tasks. Pick up some balls and cubes then drive up a ramp and drop them in a box. The ‘Bots are very interesting. A 4 wheel drive, giant Erector set that gobbles up balls and climbs and dumps.
Anyway, if you are interested in helping out on any level please let me know. Email me or phone me direct. All of my info is on the clubs site or at the bottom of the newsletter.
