Presidents Message December 2021

Well, welcome to the December Desert RATS Newsletter.

Another year is behind us. The good news is that it was better than 2020! All of our Zoom meetings were well received, and we had some great learning opportunities. And that’s a point, isn’t it? If every now and again, you can learn something. It keeps the ol’ gray matter ticking. You’re welcome.

November had an opportunity to get out and meet a few of our friends at the RATS Swap, Junk in The Trunk. Boy, it was good to see some of you. We had several requests to do it again. The Board discussed it and we would like to continue doing the event, maybe twice a year. We would like to have a committee chair to handle it. More on that later.

There will be no December RATS Zoom meeting. Just too close to Christmas. However… we have discussed doing a holiday party next year. We’ve not done one in recent club history, so how about it? We have a venue picked out, but it’s a bit of work. What we need is a chairperson to head up a RATS Holiday Party. Interested? Contact the Board.

Because of all the COVID shutdowns, variants etc etc, it looks like March before we can even start looking to get together as a club. The club picnic is still a no go, mostly because the county will most likely be losing its lease on the park around the lake. Drat!

Winter Field Day is coming up in January. But because of all the same restrictions, we will be operating as we did for Summer Field Day, that is, operating as a club from our own homes, then combining our individual scores as a club. Easier and safer. More on that below.

Yuma Hamfest is also coming up, Feb 18-19. That’s always fun. I’ve heard that our very own Steve KA6UGS has been asked to be a presenter. He will also be our January Zoom speaker.

I am looking forward to 2022. It will be a good year to be a Desert RAT. We have a bunch of interesting presentations and a few surprises for you in the upcoming year. So stray tuned.

Have a great holiday season. Stay safe and well, my friends. See you on the bands.
