Presidents message June 2020

Well things look like they might be calming down (knock wood). We are still planning lots of events for the Desert RATS membership.

First off, the RATS June meeting is a go. It will be a Zoom presentation. All you really need is a computer and an internet connection. And if you are reading this, I am assuming that you have both.

The presenter is Alan W6WN and the topic is Fire, Phones and Radios. Alan was involved with the Camp Fire that destroyed the town of Paradise. More on how this will all work is further on down in this newsletter.

Field Day is also a go. The ARRL has changed some of the rules to allow more operators to enjoy Field Day at home. You can make your own contacts using your call and submit your logs to the club to add to the club total point score.

Please note: Log one log sheet per band. Meaning put all your 20-meter contacts on one sheet and all your 40-meter contacts on another sheet etc. That will certainly make scoring on my part a lot easier. Then all you need to do is mail the originals to the clubs’ PO box (on the club web site). Alternatively, scan your log and email it to me and you’re done. Scroll down for more information. Enjoy Field Day.

For the July and August meeting, we are hoping that we can still get together at Manhattan in the Desert for some much-needed socializing, at a respectable distance.

We’ve had several inquiries about Tech classes. Mark SD6SEC and the team are working on it. We have the space; we have the instructors. It’s just that under the present circumstances, it just is not practical. But it has been a topic of discussion and it is in the works. That’s about all I can tell you.

Speaking of space; Don’t forget that the Desert RATS ARC will be meeting at a new venue starting in September. See below and on the club web site.

See you on the bands! 73
