President’s Message May 2020
I usually start my messages upbeat. I’ll save that for later.
It should not come as a great surprise to you that the May Desert RATS meeting has been officially canceled. Not only for the general health of our membership (most of us are of a certain age, you know) but the Elks Lodge is still closed. So much the better.
However, in lieu of our usual monthly meeting we will be doing a round table discussion/check in on the Desert RATS 2 Meter repeater. Early check in will start at 6:45 p.m. on the 3rd Tuesday (May 20th). The discussion will start at 7:00 p.m. with breaks from time to time for late comers.
The topic of Field Day came up at the last board meeting (held via Zoom). Field Day is the last full weekend in June. You’d think it’d be safe enough. The board is not sure. If the club put together a Field Day, would you participate? Or we just do our own Field Days at home? See more below for how to send us your thoughts.
Speaking of things calming down in the heat of the summer. The Board is still planning to have our July and August dinners at Manhattan In The Desert (subject to it being open and allowing groups). You may participate or not, your call. But it will sure be nice to see some of your smiling faces. So there is some good news.
Some more good news. As of our September 2020 meeting the Desert RATS will be holding our meetings at a new venue. Our new home is at Desert Oasis Healthcare, 275 N. El Cielo Rd. Palm Springs. It’s across from the airport fire station, not too far from where we used to meet several years ago. Just off of Ramon Rd. You know, photos with circles and arrows and paragraphs on the back. Out thanks go to VP Randy N6RLV for setting it up. Randy has also been working hard and has a great list of speakers for us, once we can reconvene our monthly meetings.
