Emergency Radio Communications takes many forms: CW, voice and DIGITAL. Narrow Band Emergency Messaging System (NBEMS) is one of the digital programs widely used in this country. The advantage over voice is it is 10 to 15 times faster and 100% accurate.Works well on low power and weak signals. At the very basic level it requires only an HT and laptop. A more complex set up using a wired interface between radio and computer is quieter. There are a host of digital modes, MT63 2KL is the one we use because of its redundancy. It works well on simplex and repeater using UHF/VHF or HF. RACES has a directed training net with all comers welcome. We use plain text and comma separated value (CSV) files to reduce size and send time This net meets Thursday evenings at 19:30 Hr on Tram 2. The NBEMS programs are free from the internet. They are Fldigi, Flwrap, Flmsg and Flamp. The FL stands for Fast as Light. Our goal is to show you what, how this is used. When cell phones and the internet are down NBEMS allows us to get the message quickly out of the disaster zone using a large selection of forms. Hope you will join us.
