December Presidents Message

December Presidents Message
December 13, 2016 Ralph Borcherds

Well, “tiz the season”. Some things are going on… or not. First off, remember that there is not a Desert RATS meeting for the month of December.

The November meeting went off well, with the elections and all. We have a new club secretary: Barbara Pocius and 2 new directors: Guy KS6F and Mark KD6SEC. Thank you for stepping up and filling the positions. I have one more volunteer, but I need to talk to him before I make the announcement. Yeah, and you get me for another year as president.

Several members from the PAPA System showed up and gave a great talk and demo of several of the newest forms of voice digital communications. Included was a demo of making your own wifi hot spot using a Raspberry Pi and a few extra bits. Very interesting. Thanks to Cecil and his crew.

There is a special CERT training coming up in January, see the article below. Also watch for the Technician class put on by RACES/CVARC in January as well. It’s going to be a crash course held at College Of The Desert.

Hamfest is coming along great. We have a full slate of speakers on a variety of subjects, 13 in all in 3 rooms. There will be VE testing running in the morning, so if you want to upgrade, here is your chance. HRO will be there as well as many other vendors of radio parts to solar supplies. Lots is going on, but we still need you. Even if you are only in the valley for a few months, you can still help out. Even if only for a few hours in the morning, during the big rush, or give someone a break at the club booth or registration. They’d like to see the event as well. So help out where ever you can. Email me if you are not on the volunteer list. Besides, you get in for free. Now there’s a deal.

Remember that it is also time to renew your Desert RATS Dues. You can do it on line using Pay Pal or print out the form and mail it in, or see Annie at the January meeting. How easy is that?

So, all of that said. I hope everyone has a great holiday season. Merry Christmas (there, I said it) and my best wishes to everyone. May Santa bring you joy and love, good health and maybe a new radio. Oh, and some good DX would not hurt.
