RATS Have A Successful 2020 Field Day

Despite the limitations imposed on us by the Covid-19 pandemic, the annual ARRL field day looks to have been a tremendous success. The ARRL adopted several new rules to help address the requirements of physical distancing and sheltering at home, resulting in increased participation by many individual club members.

Here in the Valley, RATS members were out in force to support the Club. Earl KJ6DQR and Julie KJ6FYY were a power couple, amassing over 200 contacts in a veritable onslaught of nocturnal activity.

Guy KS6F brought his Elecraft laden shack into service for the Club – and even made a satellite contact.

Meanwhile, Bruce KJ6IJM and Gavin K6GAV braved the early morning outdoor heat to work some FT-8 using a pair of balloons to loft a 130-foot dipole antenna. The battery powered station used a Yaesu FT-991A and LDG AT-100PROII antenna tuner. Computer and display were powered via inverter connected to the battery pack and internet connectivity via cell phone hotspot
